WhatsApp For Desktop Is Now Available For iPhone Users

WhatsApp, the popular mobile messaging app that Facebook acquired for $19 billion last year, has updated its web version with details about how to set up WhatsApp Web for the iPhone. WhatsApp Web for the iPhone appears to be gradually rolling out so you may not see it right away.

To see if you have access to WhatsApp Web for iPhone, open WhatsApp on your iPhone and tap on “Settings.” If you see “WhatsApp Web” in your Settings, then you will be able to activate WhatsApp on your iPhone. After you activate WhatsApp Web for your iPhone, you will be able to see which computers and web browsers are logged in to your WhatsApp Web account in the Settings menu.

WhatsApp Web for iPhone is able to sync your WhatsApp messages between your desktop, laptop and mobile device. Personally, I find it easier to type with my computer keyboard so that is why I have been patiently waiting for WhatsApp Web for iPhone to be released.

WhatsApp Web launched back in January and it works by scanning a QR code with your mobile device to log in. The reason why it took WhatsApp eight months to release WhatsApp Web for iPhone is because of Apple’s “platform limitations.”

When WhatsApp Web first arrived, it was only available for Android, Windows Phone, BlackBerry and Nokia S60 devices. Using WhatsApp Web on the desktop requires the latest mobile WhatsApp app to work.

The desktop version of WhatsApp is not the only major feature that was released by the messaging company this year. The free voice calling feature on WhatsApp rolled out for Android at the end of March. And that was followed by free voice calling on iOS about a month later.

Below is a tweet that WhatsApp Vice President Neeroj Arora retweeted earlier today via VentureBeat:

The conversations that you have on WhatsApp Web is mirrored with your mobile devices. And the conversations that you have between WhatsApp Web and WhatsApp for iPhone depends on the network connection of your mobile device. So if your mobile device’s Internet connection goes offline, then WhatsApp Web will also go down.(forbes)
